There were eight people around our dining room table Saturday night, four couples. Of the four, Jack and I were the only ones who did not sit next to each other, and we never do. We were once at a dinner party, the guests arranged at two tables, and when one wife went to sit, and found that no seats remained at the table her husband had chosen, multiple people moved their plates and glasses so that these two matrimonially linked people could have one more dinner together.
My husband is wonderful, I adore him, I really do. He drives me crazy to be certain, but at the end of the day, there are few people I would rather have dinner with. Unless I am at a dinner party, and then I want to sit next to everyone else because really, and remember I love him, I eat dinner with him almost every night of the week. Sitting next to the sister in law and partner of the college roommate is a treat and really, they gush over my cooking far more than the man who faces it about five nights a week.
Hit the road Jack, this seat is taken.

my "rules" for dinner party seating:
1) boy girl boy girl
2) you may not sit next to your own date
