The Cleaning Ladies

The first five items on the kindergarten supply list are cleaning products: Lysol spray, Clorox spray, Clorox wipes, gallon garbage bags and paper towels.

Will there be learning, in any form, or are we recruiting five year old children to clean the school? And just how dirty is this school? If two classes of 24 children each bring two cans of Lysol spray, what kind of germs require 96 cans of Lysol to be obliterated?

The children do not clean our home, they are barely capable of hitting the laundry basket with their dirty clothes. A little cleaning education would be a wonderful thing, Jack and I agree, but is kindergarten the place where I want that to happen? Maybe I could take that on at home, I'd be happy to try; we could spend our free time seeking out the laundry basket, or the garbage can, this alone would put us steps ahead.

But kindergarten? Maybe we could limit the cleaning to cleaning up, after crayons or paints, or snack time, I support that. And while I admit I am no cleaning expert, I can't imagine you really need Clorox cleaning spray when picking up crayons, at least I hope not.

Two weeks from yesterday, the cleaning begins.
