Twins Redux

"Are you twins?".

She was asking if I was a twin, or more specifically if my sister and I were twins.

"Do we look alike?".

No, she didn't think so, not really, but Mary and Kate don't really look alike and she guessed Ashley and I to be very close in age.

Huge smile, huge.

Ashley is eight years younger. The last time someone asked if we were twins I was about 26 and so at 18, she was thrilled that someone thought she was older. Not so now, or so I would guess. She will be less than thrilled to find that she was just compared to someone who heads straight for the sensible shoe section while shopping, someone who feels her knees creak every morning and is not adverse to touching up the front, just where a few grays are starting to peek out. Ashley will now spend the next few days horrified that she has been compared to an often tired, and wildly happy, cardigan wearing 43 year old mother of two.

And I get to spend the next few days, a bounce in that sensible shoe step, thinking I look like a 35 year old sassy dressing single woman.

The true joy in being the older sister; Ashley will not be pleased.

You know, it gives me IMMENSE pleasure to know that my two-years-younger sister has more wrinkles than I do. Major crowsfeet, even. Heh.

half way to forty....i don't mind at this point because i feel so old anyway! and besides, i AM the little sister and no matter how old we are...the little sister always idolizes the big sister. love being your "twin". although....a bit confused as the girls know i'm younger and taller. we discuss this a lot:)
