It should have been the perfect day: Cubs at Royals, in their new spring training stadium; Arizona in March (as opposed to Chicago); and our second wedding anniversary spent watching our two favorite teams play in their first spring training game ever.
It was miserable. Cold and rainy and miserable. Which is not what Arizona is supposed to be, not in March, not on our second anniversary.
Two green beers in they finally called it, after playing an excessively long game of absolutely nothing. The tarp never once left the brand new field.
The Royals and the Cubs meet again today. I wish for them fair skies, warm weather, and at least nine good innings. In theory, a baseball game could go on forever. We should be so lucky.
Slainte.
