On this merry-go-round,

There's a Jim Crow car.
On the bus we're put in the back—

Langston Hughes
Kate finished a research project Wednesday on Langston Hughes, her favorite poet. With a focus on discrimination in the thirties, as she is reading the wonderful Christopher Paul Curtis novel Bud, Not Buddy, she chose this poem to be central to her report; a fine choice.
